Flat6Labs, a venture capital firm, commenced its 4-day Bootcamp for 20 of the most innovative entrants. Over the course of the week, these start-ups will receive training, based on the ‘Lean Start-up’ approach. Following which, they will vie for just 10 spots in the third cycle of the Flat6Labs flagship seed programme in Abu Dhabi.

Flat6Labs claims to have successfully nurtured 18 start-ups, that have cumulatively received over AED18 million in funding, in the previous two cycles of Flat6Labs Ignite — a specialized AED120 million seed program run in partnership with DisruptAD, ADQ’s venture capital platform, to support up to 60 start-ups in Abu Dhabi over three years.

“Flat6Labs in partnership with ADQ is here to support this thriving start-up ecosystem and the resounding success we have had over the first two cycles — which have seen companies like RemotePass and Dharma rapidly grow to become dominant players in their respective industries — is testament to the effectiveness of our program,” said Ryaan Sharif, General Manager at Flat6Labs UAE.

The mentorship offered to the start-ups over the course of the Bootcamp includes insight on creation of the minimum viable product/service, customer discovery, marketing, go-to-market strategy development, and financial modelling. In conclusion of this training, each start-up will have the opportunity to present its pitch to a Selection Committee comprised of Flat6Labs Management, ADQ’s representatives, veteran venture capitalists and top executives from the region’s leading enterprises.

The companies that are chosen by the Selection Committee will be eligible for seed funding of up to AED1.15 million, and follow-on funding of up to AED2 million. Furthermore, inclusion in the Flat6Labs Ignite program gives selected start-ups tailored support, mentorship, and access to ADQ’s considerable network and resources.

D-Link Corporation has announced it is extending its sales and technical training programme to further drive skills and training in its latest networking technologies.

According to the vendor that manufactures solutions in the IP Surveillance, Wireless, Switching, Storage, Security, Cloud, VoIP, Print Servers, Structured Cabling, Digital Home, 3G/4G Routers, Power over Ethernet Kit, Powerline, KVM, Structured Cabling and Digital home offerings, the company has decided to enhance its training schemes in pre-sales and technical certifications to empower solution providers so that they able to implement holistic solutions for customers of all sizes in the market.

As companies look to implement digital transformation strategies and leverage technology trends like the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing and mobility, channel partners struggle to find staff with the required skills to implement these technologies safely and securely.

Lack of skills and resources was cited by 53% of organisations as one of the biggest barriers to implementing digital transformation projects, according to research by International Data Corporation (IDC).

Sakkeer Hussain, Director – Sales and Marketing, D-Link Middle East and Africa (MEA), said D-Link is continually expanding and refining the channel partner training programme, with the company introducing new courses as the product portfolio grows.

Hussain said reseller partners who successfully complete the courses are not only certified, but also incentivised through rebates and other resources that help them to grow their business.

According to D-Link, its most recent additions to the portfolio include the Home Connect series, which uses 802.11ah, Z-Wave and Zigbee-based technologies helping consumers to implement a complete smart home solution.

The Home Connect category includes simple-to-use, application-enabled cloud products like power management devices, home sensors, cameras, smoke/water detectors, door/window alarms aimed at enhancing and enriching human life experiences.

Hussain said D-Link offers two types of training offered through its training facility in Dubai. “The first one is pre-sales training and it is for pre-sales engineers and sales people working for reseller firms,” he said. “This training takes them through new products, product updates, latest technologies and the various applications where these technologies and solutions can be implemented.”

He added that the other kind of training is technical and it’s a five-day course that takes candidates through detailed practical issues including product installation and is conducted by highly qualified and certified D-Link engineers. “The programme takes them through live demonstrations that replicate real life customer environments,” he said.

He explained that extending partner training is also aimed at helping channel partners with limited resources to be in a position to carry out proof of concepts (PoC).

TechAccess has successfully concluded its first technical training session for new partners of Extreme Networks. Partners were introduced to TechAccess’ business model, given an overview of Extreme Networks’ products and solutions, and received immersive training on basic switch configuration at TechAccess’ state-of-the-art Solutions Center in Dubai.

“In an effort to boost Extreme Networks’ regional reach and ensure a higher level of service to customers, TechAccess has on-boarded several new partners recently. As the region’s top value added distributor we also believe that induction and training sessions are a crucial element of our enablement process for new partners,” said Roshan Sequeira, Product Manager – Networks, TechAccess. “Sessions like this help partners understand vendor strategy and enable them to fully understand the focus and capabilities of the vendor’s various products and solutions. We also take partners through the benefits of the TechAccess Partner Loyalty Program, so partners can make the most of their relationships with us.”

The training session, which focused on basic switch configuration, is the first in a series of sessions that TechAccess has planned for partners of Extreme Networks. TechAccess’ highly skilled professional services team carried out the product and technical focus areas of the training sessions.

TechAccess added Extreme Networks to its portfolio of vendors in 2014. Extreme Networks offers a variety of wireless and mobility, switching and routing, and management and security solutions.
