Acronis Highlights Rising Cyberthreats and Need for Vigilance on World Wide Web Day
World Wide Web Day serves as a reminder of the internet’s transformative impact on our lives. Acronis highlights that with advancements in technology in the MENA region, rising cyberthreats require heightened vigilance and robust protective measures.
Gaidar Magdanurov, President and CMO, Acronis commented, “World Wide Web Day is a time for us to contemplate the profound impact of the web on our lives. With an abundance of websites and applications out there, information is at our fingerprints. In recent years, with technological advancements, notably in AI and Machine Learning, the World Wide Web is no longer the same as when it was created in 1989.”
He added, “In the MENA region, generative AI is rapidly gaining traction for its potential to transform various industries, leading to increased investments in this technology. However, as technology progresses, so do the threats in the digital landscape. While we are presented with numerous tools to enhance convenience, attackers exploit these innovations to infiltrate devices and exploit unsuspecting internet users. Acronis’ Cyberthreats Reports highlight a concerning trend, with 1,048 publicly reported ransomware cases in H1 2024, marking a 23 percent increase from Q1 2023. Moreover, from January to May 2024, the UAE experienced a significant 11.7% increase in malware detection.
As we navigate the limitless possibilities of the internet, vigilance is paramount. Acronis provides highly reliable and efficient cybersecurity that is natively integrated with data protection and endpoint management. This integration allows for automated remediation and improves security, which enhances detection rates, minimizes false positives, and ensures reliable recovery from cyberattacks. Practicing cybersecurity best practices and adopting reliable protection solutions are essential to fully harness the opportunities presented in the web. After all, cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, and the more systems that are secured, the more secure we all are.”
