huawei_liu_shaoweiInnovation to help organizations in the region better protect IT investments

As an organization’s network grows, CIOs need to pay closer attention to how to better accommodate the inevitable challenges to ensure that there is uninterrupted business in times of transition. This is why Huawei—a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider—today unveiled its ground-breaking Agile Switch S12700, a networking product that is ready to accommodate the future mode of Software-Defined-Networking (SDN) that allows networks to be easily built and programmed for businesses to make faster decisions on a software-based infrastructure that is more flexible than ever before.
The product launch was hosted during GITEX Technology Week and included keynotes from industry experts such as Mr. Liu Shao Wei, President, IP solutions, Huawei Enterprise, Global Markets, Mr. Paul Black, Director of Telecoms MEA at IDC, as well as representatives from Huawei’s Value Added Partners and its end-users.
The age of technological trends from Software-Defined-Networking (SDN), cloud computing, Bring-Your-Own-Device to Big Data has increased in popularity over the past few years and consequently demanded new requirements for higher density, performance flexibility and larger-scale internet connectivity. Huawei has brought about a new generation of switching technologies that are smarter, more agile for switches to be easily programmed to accommodate virtually all network needs for all levels of business today and what the future holds.
“How we define a network is fast changing thanks to the technological innovations that are embracing the new challenges the world of businesses is experiencing today,” said Mr. Liu Shao Wei. “CIOs are always asking how they can better manage their IT networks to ensure that their networks are optimized. The launch of Huawei’s Agile Switch S12700 brings a host of business benefits, allowing decisions not only to be made automatically and quickly, but also frees up network resources so that decision makers are able to focus on their core business. The Agile Switch series is designed to prepare itself for the Software-Defined-Networking era, which will assist end-users with addressing the future challenges of network development and convergence.”
The unveiling of Huawei’s Agile S12700 switch series in the Middle East comes at a time where the industry is witnessing the convergence of data centers, wireless and wide area network (WAN) technology. From smart campus solutions, designed to enable seamless internet connectivity through providing traffic awareness, control and protection, to embracing future networks like Software-Defined-Networking (SDN), Huawei’s overall strategy for its networking business aims to create an open, simplified network architecture for businesses so that the switching technology responds to the fast changing requirements of organisations.
Huawei’s Agile S12700 switch series uses a fully programmable switching architecture to allow even faster and more network customization, ready to make a swift move to the future of Software-Defined Networking (SDN). Featuring automatic network deployment and management applications, the S12700 supports end-to-end security collaboration with the flexibility of enabling fast-changing services. Thanks to Huawei’s Ethernet Network Processor (ENP), the architecture acts as a faster brain to process network traffic by up to three times faster than the industry average.
According to IDC, the market for Software-Defined-Networking (SDN) technology in the enterprise and cloud service provider segments is projected to grow from just $360 million in 2013 to $3.7 billion by 2016 .
The latest unveiling follows a strong presence from Huawei at this year’s GITEX Technology Week taking place from October 20-24 at the Dubai World Trade Center, in which the company is showcasing a wide range of its industry-leading technologies. All of Huawei’s latest solutions and products can be found at GITEX in the GULFCOMMS sector in Zabeel Hall, stand Z-E20.
