THE LAST HARVEST – Using precious little olive oil from Gaza to preserve hope for the next harvest.

Published

on

For generations, the olive tree has been deeply rooted in Gaza’s culture, heritage and livelihoods. Today, that connection is under threat. More than 1.8 million olive trees have been destroyed, and Gaza’s olive production has fallen by 87.5%, putting the livelihoods of farmers and a tradition passed down through generations at risk.

The Last Harvest was created to help protect what remains of Gaza’s olive cultivation, preserve the culture and traditions surrounding the olive harvest, and support farmers in rebuilding their livelihoods.

The campaign is a collaboration between Palestinian olive oil brand Jenin and The Big Heart Foundation. Combining cultural heritage, humanitarian action and storytelling to support the restoration of olive cultivation in Gaza.

At the heart of the campaign are the stories of Gaza’s farmers, their land and a tradition passed down through generations. One of these stories began with a small quantity of olive oil pressed by a family in Gaza. Destruction followed, and for many of the trees, it was the last harvest. But the family shared the oil, in the hope that it would carry their message of persistence to the outside world.

It wasn’t much. But there was a way to make it go far.

The oil has since been preserved in handcrafted vessels designed by Palestinian artist Lameice Abu Aker and hand-blown by local artisans. Their shape reflects the oil bottles that have long sat on Palestinian tables, while seed-shaped vials protect the drops above a base of burnt olive wood, representing both destruction and the possibility of regrowth.

Through The Last Harvest, the preserved oil becomes a way to tell a much wider story. One about the importance of protecting Gaza’s olive trees, restoring the agricultural land they grow on, and helping the farmers whose work and income depend on them.

There are several ways to support The Last Harvest and help rebuild olive farming in Gaza:

  • Bid on The Last Harvest: Take part in the online auction for the preserved oil in a one-of-a-kind glass vessel.
  • Make a direct donation: Contributions can be made through The Big Heart Foundation’s website to support the campaign.
  • Purchase The Fallaheen Reserve: A limited-edition olive oil bottle from Jenin, with 100% of the profits being donated to support the farmers.
  • Spread the word: Share the campaign and its story to raise awareness about the importance of protecting Gaza’s olive heritage and the farmers working to restore it.
  • YallaGive: Contributions can be made through The Last Harvest campaign page on YallaGive, hosted by The Big Heart Foundation.

The campaign is ultimately about more than preserving a small quantity of olive oil. It is about preserving a culture, protecting the future, and helping farmers regrow what has been lost. Through collective efforts, we can make sure that a tradition that has endured for generations will never face The Last Harvest.

AED 35 can plant one olive tree in Gaza. Donate today to help more trees take root, support farming families and make future harvests possible.

All campaign proceeds will go to the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (APN) towards programme implementation.

LOONA Introduces Interactive La Fortuna Ravioli Dining Concept

Published

on

There is something about an Italian table that makes you want to stay a little longer. At LOONA, that feeling comes through in food made with good ingredients, recipes rooted in tradition and dishes designed to be enjoyed together.

A Little Luck, A Lot of Italy: LOONA Introduces La Fortuna Ravioli Alongside a New Menu and Breakfast Offering

The day at LOONA begins with Mamma Mia, its breakfast offering served from 9am to 12pm. Designed for those who believe breakfast should never be rushed, the menu brings together familiar favourites alongside new additions including ricotta dumplings with cherry, Caprese omelette, cauliflower fritters with red caviar and more. For those who prefer a later start, six of Mamma Mia’s bestsellers remain available until 6pm, making it possible to enjoy breakfast favourites well into the afternoon.

That same sense of warmth and tradition carries through the wider menu, bringing the flavours of Italy to the table through fresh pasta, seafood, pizza and familiar classics. The kitchen works with 24-month-aged Parmigiano Reggiano, several types of Caputo flour, organic eggs, Lorenzo extra virgin olive oil and Sicilian Nocellara del Belice olives, keeping quality ingredients at the heart of every dish.

Among the specials are sweet tomatoes with stracciatella, pappardelle with duck, potato ravioli with beef ragù and calamarata with beef polpette, alongside a selection of fresh seafood, crudo, handmade pasta and risotto. A particular highlight is LOONA’s Italian-style sushi, a delicate and distinctive take on the classic, served without rice and instead presented on a bed of fresh crab. Incredibly fresh and refined, it brings together the delicate flavours of the sea with LOONA’s Italian sensibility.

Then comes La Fortuna Ravioli, a little tradition designed to make the meal even more memorable.

Inspired by the Head Chef’s Italian heritage, La Fortuna Ravioli takes its cue from a family tradition passed down by his grandfather, who would create a similar concept for his family. What was once a small ritual around the family table has now found a new home at LOONA, bringing a piece of that story to Dubai and giving guests the chance to experience it for themselves.

The idea is simple. At the end of the meal, guests will find a special ravioli waiting for them. Open it, and inside is a surprise revealing what they have won, with every table guaranteed to be a winner.

At its heart, La Fortuna Ravioli is about what LOONA does best, bringing people together over food, with a little generosity, a little tradition and plenty of reasons to stay for one more dish. Because sometimes, the best part of an Italian meal is not knowing exactly what you’ll find until you open the ravioli.

Archi Unveils Next Phase of USD 770 Million Grand Avenue Development in Tbilisi

Published

on

Archi, Georgia’s leading real estate developer, has unveiled the next phase of Archi Grand Avenue, a GEL 2 billion development in Tbilisi, equivalent to approximately USD 770 million. The new phase introduces a five-star Hilton hotel, Wyndham Residences and an international team of architects, designers and commercial development specialists.

The milestone was announced at a presentation held at the development on 8 October, attended by the Prime Minister of Georgia, members of the Georgian Government, international partners, media and Archi residents. A symbolic signing ceremony and the placement of a time capsule marked the start of the next stage.

Spanning 21 hectares, Archi Grand Avenue is planned as an integrated urban district combining residential, hospitality, commercial and public spaces. Fifteen hectares will be dedicated to recreation, with parks and landscaped areas, cycling paths, a skatepark, an urban amphitheatre and dedicated spaces for children.

The master plan also includes restaurants, entertainment venues, a school and kindergarten, as well as a padel centre, football and basketball courts, a 3,200-square-metre gym and a spa. A planned underground tunnel will provide a direct connection to Tsereteli Avenue.

“Archi Grand Avenue is the new heart of the city – a place where Tbilisi’s historical heritage meets the possibilities of modern living. Together with our international partners, our goal is to develop residential, hospitality, commercial, and public spaces as part of one integrated environment. We aim to create a district that brings new opportunities to the city and becomes an exceptional place for people to live, work, and relax,” said Ilia Tsulaia, Founder and Chairman of Archi.

A central element of the development is the adaptive reuse of Tbilisi’s former railway carriage factory. Its industrial heritage will be preserved while the site is transformed into a destination for dining, coworking, retail, technology and entertainment.

London-based architecture studio Benoy is leading the factory’s transformation, supported by Alkaş & Han Spaces. Chapman Taylor’s Madrid studio is developing the Grand Avenue master plan and the architecture of the Hilton hotel. Australian studio OCULUS is contributing to the master plan and landscape design under landscape designer Bob Earl, while Wei Yap Architecture is developing the wider architectural concept.

“Through this partnership, Wyndham will bring its global experience, world-class hospitality standards and expertise to create an exceptional living experience. We believe that together with Archi, we are creating something truly special, a new centre of attraction that will set new standards for branded residences in Georgia,” said David Gesto, Director of Franchise Operations, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, EMEA.

The project comes as Georgia strengthens its appeal to international buyers, supported by its strategic location between Europe and Asia, free-trade agreements with markets including the UAE, and strong recent economic growth. More than one in four Archi buyers is already international, reflecting growing overseas interest in the country’s property market.

For GCC buyers familiar with internationally branded residences and mixed-use destinations, Archi Grand Avenue brings together hospitality, lifestyle infrastructure and residential ownership within one master-planned district. The project also offers access to a city that is increasingly attracting international residents and investors.

The next project milestone will be Archi Grand Avenue’s Big Discount Day on 24 October 2026. For one day only, registered buyers will be able to purchase selected apartments at special event prices. The previous Big Discount Day generated sales of 644 apartments, and Archi reports that prices within the project have since increased by 27–28 per cent.
