Design Duels Season 3

Design Duels, the UAE’s biggest multi-sport event for the design and home improvement industries, returns for its third season on Saturday, 11 October 2025 at Danube Sports World.

Hosted by Casa Milano and supported by the Dubai Sports Council, the event will once again bring the industry together for a day of high-energy competition, networking, and community spirit. Registration will be open from August 15 to September 15 through the Playinga app.

Reflecting on the journey so far, Azhar Sajan, director of Casa Milano and Danube Hospitality, said:

“Over the past two seasons, Design Duels has become more than just a sports tournament. It is a celebration of the design community. Our first season brought together 78 companies and 1,200 participants. In Season 2, we grew to 120 companies and 2,100 participants. Every event we host at Casa Milano is about bringing the design community together, building connections and creating moments beyond the workplace.”

Jotun supports this year’s event as platinum sponsor, Oryx Doors and Windows as gold sponsor, Danube Sports World as venue partner, and Intelier as events & media partner. In 2025, the event will return to its original one-day format.

“We have refined participation to focus on design and architecture companies and contractors, staying true to the industry roots of Design Duels,” Sajan explained and added that this year he’s expecting between 80 to 100 companies to take part in this year’s competition.

The competition will also expand with two new sports: Pickleball, one of the fastest-growing racket sports globally, and Carrom, a classic board game enjoyed by many.

“These new additions make the event more inclusive and fun for all skill levels,” Sajan explained.

Season 3 will also debut a new jersey collection to give each team a fresh look and proudly display their company logos on the court.

For the first time, Design Duels will introduce Brand Ambassadors. These are leading voices from the design industry who have supported the event over the years and represent the collaboration and energy of the community.

The 2025 Brand Ambassadors are: Firas Alsahin (4SPACE Design), Olena Vasylieva (XBD Collective), Rakan Jandali (KCA International), Esther Echeverria (L&C Recruitment), Indu Govindan (Jea / Abra), Ahmed Sultan (Finasi), Siddharth Peters (Love That Design), Helia Rad (Helia Rad Design), Christian Merieau (MMAC Design Associates), Richard Fitzgerald (Lovin Dubai), Leali Ezzat (Ele Interior), and Mihir Sanganee (Designsmith).

Firas Alsahin, co-founder and design director at 4SPACE, said: “For us, Design Duels is where the design community gets to swap the design tools for sports gear. It is a chance to step away from the deadlines, meet our peers in a completely different setting, and enjoy some friendly competition. It is about seeing another side of the people we usually meet in meetings or at industry events.”

Olena Vasylieva, design manager at XBD Collective, added: “The design industry thrives on connection, and events like Design Duels break down the walls between studios, suppliers and creatives. It is a rare opportunity for professionals to network without the formality, to share ideas in a relaxed environment and to foster a sense of community that inspires future collaborations.”

Design Duels Season 3 will take place on Saturday, 11 October 2025, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Danube Sports World in Dubai.

Anthropologie Celebrates the Season with a New Festive Homeware Collection

Whimsical glass Christmas ornaments with miniature winter scenes hanging from red and white striped ribbons

As the season turns and the air fills with the promise of celebration, Anthropologie brings its signature charm to the art of festive living. This year’s homeware collection captures everything we love about the holidays – a little nostalgia, a touch of whimsy and plenty of warmth.

Think mugs that feel as indulgent as the drinks they hold, delicately embossed with lace-like detail, topped with clouds of cream and a hint of cinnamon. They are the kind of pieces that turn a quiet winter morning into a small ritual of comfort.

Elsewhere, ornaments glimmer with storybook allure. Tiny glass globes reveal miniature worlds with soft trees, golden light and festive scenes frozen in time. Hung from candy-striped ribbons, they bring a sense of playfulness to the tree, a reminder that beauty lies in the details.

For those who love to personalise their holiday decor, pearl-dotted letters tied with satin ribbons offer a timeless touch. Whether adorning a place setting, gift wrap, or the branches of a tree, they lend an understated luxury with equal parts thoughtful and chic.

Finally, no Anthropologie celebration would be complete without a little wordplay. Stacked mugs spelling JOY set the tone for the season: classic, cheerful and beautifully made.

This is festive living, the Anthropologie way – where craftsmanship meets creativity and every cup, ornament and ribboned letter turns the everyday into something worth savouring.

Kima Izakaya is answering the call of Dubai’s winter with the official opening of its outdoor terrace. The intimate izakaya that has quietly captured hearts in Jumeirah Lake Towers now extends its warmth beyond four walls, creating an alfresco haven where Japan’s backstreet energy thrives under Dubai’s perfect evening skies.

More than an outdoor seating area, this terrace is where Kima’s soul extends beyond four walls. Low seating, soft lighting, and those vintage touches from inside, now under the stars. And here’s the thing: the communal tables are designed to spark conversation and build that neighbourhood vibe Kima’s all about. Sharing is caring, after all.

The menu? Still the same. Tataki that melts on the tongue, crispy kara-age, delicate sashimi, steaming gyoza, and yakisoba that hits every comfort note. Chef Pawel brings the same heart and precision to every dish, using premium Japanese ingredients without the pretension or the typical Dubai price tag.

Fair prices, real vibes, honest hospitality. Whether diners are Dubai veterans or just discovering the city, Kima feels like home. The terrace is open, the weather’s perfect, and the izakaya spirit is alive.

Treppan Serenique Residences exterior view showing modern dual tower design with curved balconies and waterfront location at sunset

Leading sustainability and low carbon footprint lifestyle developer Fakhruddin Properties officially launched its flagship Dubai Islands project – Treppan Serenique Residences – at a gala VIP event held at Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai on 13th November.

The dual tower Treppan Living branded project will occupy prime waterfront real estate on Island A of the sought-after five-island  community and offers a premium resort lifestyle with a curated collection of 164 exquisite two- and three-bedroom apartments, ranging from 980 to 1,902 square feet, and offering panoramic sea, golf course, or island views.

A total of 12 residential floors and two podium floors will be complemented by over 50 specially selected amenities, including an oxygen-rich bamboo park and biohacking lab featuring a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, cryotherapy, red light therapy, and sensory deprivation pods. Residents also have access to a rooftop infinity pool, indoor and outdoor gyms, rock climbing walk, state-of-the-art meditation pods, koi pond, dedicated kids’ leisure facilities, and are a mere 90 seconds walk from the island’s white sand beaches.

Commenting on the launch, Yousuf Fakhruddin, CEO and Managing Partner of Fakhruddin Properties, said: “Treppan Serenique Residences is an exclusive wellness-forward sanctuary where luxury resort inspiration is fused with pioneering smart home and AI technologies, underpinned by our proven track record of sustainability-driven residential real estate design, development and delivery.

“Treppan Serenique Residences will be the first – and only – premium residential destination to provide complimentary biohacking amenities as standard. In a June 2025 report, the Global Wellness Institute noted that real estate has long been the fastest-growing sector in the wellness economy, with an estimated FY 2024 market value of US$548.4 billion. This represents approximately 3.3% of global annual construction output, with a CAGR of 19.5% for the period 2019-2024, and the market is forecasted to grow exponentially, to hit US$1,114 billion by 2029.”

“Residents will be able to seamlessly integrate transformative clinically proven therapies into their daily routine with treatments designed to enhance recovery, boost energy, and improve sleep quality.Together, with the full raft of complementary on-property amenities, this is the resort lifestyle experience elevated to a standard not seen before in the UAE,” he added.

Fakhruddin Properties continues to lead the market in groundbreaking sustainability initiatives, with its latest Treppan Living project delivering on multiple fronts, including waste management, with 90% of all property waste recycled using the company’s proprietary waste segregation system.

In addition, Treppan Serenique residents will have hydrogenated, ionised, organically mineralised alkaline drinking water on tap, which removes the need for plastic bottled water,  drastically reducing plastic waste and emissions tied to bottled water logistics as part of the group’s commitment to eliminating single-use plastics. The residences will also house a Refill Station where everyday household products such as detergents, hand wash, and body wash will be available at a subsidised cost.

Meanwhile, NASA-grade technology will deliver clean air via an Airocide air purifier, supported by Smart Air Handling Unit (SAHU) technology that guarantees the purest indoor air quality while consuming less energy.

As in all Fakhruddin projects, energy efficiency is a key focus with a targeted 30% reduction in energy consumption achievable thanks to AI-enabled smart home technology, energy efficient electronic applications, and SAHU implementation, which reduces the load on the overall HVAC system by cutting humidity and dust congestion in the ducts.

Community residents will also be able to meet, relax and socialise in the Greenhouse Café, a radiant cooling system-controlled dining destination that will be home to an on-site hydroponics system ensuring a supply of fresh leafy greens. The radiant cooling system is designed to regulate room temperature while simultaneously reducing energy consumption by 10-15% and supporting opportunity for efficient water recycling.

“Treppan Living is a lifestyle infrastructure ecosystem that anchors Fakhruddin Properties’ growing portfolio of high-profile, sustainable, wellness-focused lifestyle projects. Since inception in 2023, Treppan Living has been integral to our commitment to create low carbon communities that meet the increasingly exacting demands of a global client base of health and eco-conscious investors. Treppan Serenique Residences marks our second Dubai Islands community, with other projects located in Jumeirah Village Circle and Jumeirah Village Triangle. Our first Dubai Islands project, Hatimi Residences by Treppan Living has seen a per-square-foot price appreciation of approximately 103% since its launch three years ago,” said CEO, Yousuf Fakhruddin.

To encourage community-wide engagement, residents are invited to join the Treppan Living rewards programme – asimple, practical points-based initiative that rewards sustainable involvement, whether it’s recycling of household waste and other items, using the refill stations, or signing up for eco-friendly services, as well as addressing personal wellness by taking yoga classes, using hydroponics-produced vegetables, attending community events, etc.

Points are translated into tier status, which allow priority access to certain amenities, community recognition, and other value-led benefits. Treppan Coins, meanwhile, can be earned and redeemed for various community, health and sustainability benefits via the Treppan Living app.

A highly decorated pioneer in the sustainability development space in the UAE, with 11 awards recognising eco-friendly innovations implemented across various projects, and a total of 18 accolades spanning sustainability, innovation, technology, brand, leadership and design, Fakhruddin Properties continues to ‘walk the talk’ for each new project – from drawing board to physical reality – with the delivery of liveable, environmentally-conscious developments that align with Dubai and the UAE Government’s long-term sustainability vision.
