Samsung Certification

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that its proprietary cryptography module, Samsung CryptoCore, has earned the prestigious FIPS 140-3 certification from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This certification underscores Samsung’s commitment to providing industry-leading security and data protection for Smart TV users.

“As home entertainment systems become more connected, it becomes critical for technology companies to safeguard the personal data that enables the seamless connectivity enjoyed by so many,” said Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “By integrating the FIPS 140-3-certified CryptoCore into our Smart TVs, Samsung is taking our commitment to secure home entertainment a step further and ensuring that our users can freely experience the value of our products.”

Beginning in 2025, Samsung CryptoCore will be fully integrated into Tizen OS, Samsung’s Smart TV operating system, enhancing the security of key products such as TVs, monitors and digital signage. With Samsung CryptoCore embedded in Tizen OS, personal data linked to Samsung accounts will be securely encrypted, SmartThings authentication information will be protected from external hacking threats and content viewed on TVs will benefit from enhanced copyright protection.

Since 2015, Samsung has equipped its Smart TVs with Samsung Knox, a security platform that has earned Common Criteria (CC) certification for 10 consecutive years. But with its newly acquired FIPS 140-3 certification, Samsung has strengthened its defenses against hacking and data breaches even further, proactively protecting personal information with advanced encryption technology.

Recognized by governments in 10 countries, the FIPS 140-3 certification requires comprehensive testing of cryptographic modules to ensure their security, integrity, and reliability. For users, this means Samsung Smart TVs offer cutting-edge protection against privacy breaches, allowing them to enjoy their content, connect smart devices, and engage with IoT services securely and without concerns.

Toshiba Collaborates with PROMISE Technology on Providing the Optimal Data Storage Technology for CERN’s Large Hadron Collider

Published

on

Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH (Toshiba) recently announces a new video that showcases its successful partnership with PROMISE Technology to deliver enhanced data storage capabilities to CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, home to the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The video explores how the collaborative partnership has been instrumental in fulfilling CERN’s mission by delivering robust storage systems and cutting-edge hard drives to support its groundbreaking research.

The LHC’s collision detectors, which run 24/7, generate approximately 1TB of data per minute, necessitating robust and reliable data storage. Since 2008, CERN has used PROMISE Technology’s 24-bay JBOD VTrak J5800 HDD enclosures, with some of the earliest systems still operational today. CERN has also used Toshiba’s Enterprise Capacity HDDs, starting with capacities of 4TB over ten years ago to the MG09 Series Enterprise Capacity 18TB HDDs.

During this time, the two companies supported CERN in scaling up the storage capacity at its central data center, which sends this data to more than 170 research institutes around the world for analysis. Today, this storage system has reached a capacity of more than one Exabyte, which is one thousand Petabytes or a million Terabytes, realized with more than 120,000 HDDs sitting in more than 4,000 JBOD enclosures.

Building on this success, PROMISE Technology developed a new 60-bay JBOD model, the VTrak J5960. The JBOD storage system incorporates ‘Greenboost’ technology, a suite of energy-saving innovations that can reduce power consumption by up to 30%. In the HDD application lab, Toshiba completed early testing PROMISE Technology’s 60-bay JBOD with its Enterprise Capacity MG10 Series 20TB HDDs, and confirmed data- and cooling performance and power efficiency, which aligns with the global push towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly data management practices.

About this collaboration achievement in data storage Eric Bonfillou, Debuty Group Leader of CERN’s IT Fabric group states: “In our quest to unravel the mysteries of the universe, we need partners who understand the importance of data storage, reliability, and efficiency with solutions that are tailored to our unique needs.”

“The energy crisis is now a real challenge to all enterprises, including CERN,” Alice Chang, Chief Marketing Officer, PROMISE Technology. “The VTrak J5960 offers a well-rounded solution to solve this dilemma, and we are confident that Toshiba’s Enterprise Capacity HDDs, installed and operated in this JBOD, will support CERN’s future need for growing data storage capacity in a reliable and energy-efficient way.”

“At Toshiba, we are very proud to support CERN’s activities with Enterprise Capacity HDDs,” says Rainer W. Kaese, Senior Manager Business Development, Storage Products Division at Toshiba. “We continue to develop higher capacities, up to 30TB and beyond, as HDDs are and will remain essential for storing the exabytes of data that CERN and the entire world produce in a cost-effective and energy-efficient manner.”

While the video celebrates the collaborative work with CERN, the focus remains on the technological advancements and the future of data storage at the research facility. Toshiba and PROMISE Technology are committed to providing solutions that ensure the LHC’s research continues without interruption, contributing to our understanding of the universe.

Canon Inc. announced the release of the FPA-3030i6 i-line stepper, a new semiconductor lithography system

Published

Canon

The FPA-3030i6 employs a newly developed projection lens that boasts high transmittance and high-durability. The system reduces lens aberration for high exposure dose processes and improves productivity by shortening exposure time.

The lens is made of high-transmittance glass material that reduces lens aberrations occurring during exposure by more than 50% when compared to previous stepper models. Higher transmittance also helps reduce exposure time while maintaining pattern fidelity, even under high exposure dose conditions.

Improving lens transmittance will also increase exposure intensity and shorten the exposure time required for each process. The FPA-3030i6 standard productivity for 8 inch (200 mm) wafers has increased to 130 wafers per hour from 123 for the previous stepper models.

Additionally, since the lens is highly durable, lens transmittance decrease over time is reduced and productivity can be maintained over the life of the system.

The NA (numerical aperture) range has also been expanded from 0.45~0.63 in the previous model to 0.30~0.63. Allowing for a smaller NA enables customers to select the optimum NA for each device layer.

Optional products including a wafer handling system for special substrates are available for order to meet users’ manufacturing needs for various emerging semiconductor devices including high-power and high-efficiency green devices.

The FPA-3030i6 is designed to support a wider range of device fabrication thanks to a variety of available process options for silicon (Si) as well as sapphire and compound semiconductor materials such as silicon carbide (SiC), gallium nitride (GaN) and gallium arsenide (GaAs) substrates.

Canon will offer wafer feeding options enabling handling of substrates from 2 inches (50 mm) to 8 inches (200 mm) in diameter, as well as thick, thin and warped substrate handling.
