The New Age of Security
By Sidra Kamal
The evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) has been a cornerstone of digital transformation over the past decade. Starting from supervised learning, AI and ML have rapidly advanced with unsupervised, semi-supervised, reinforcement, and deep learning. The latest frontier in AI technology is Generative AI (GenAI), developed using deep neural networks to learn the patterns and structures of large training corpuses to generate similar new content. GenAI can produce various forms of content, including text, images, sound, animation, source code, and other data types.
The launch of ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) by OpenAI in November 2022 significantly disrupted the AI/ML community. ChatGPT demonstrated the power of GenAI by reaching the general public, revolutionizing perceptions of AI/ML. According to Netskope’s Cloud and Threat Report 2024, ChatGPT was the most popular generative AI application in 2023, accounting for 7% of enterprise usage. The tech industry is now racing to develop sophisticated Large Language Models (LLMs) capable of creating human-like conversations, exemplified by Microsoft’s GPT model, Google’s Bard, and Meta’s LLaMa. Within a year of its release, ChatGPT reached 100 million users, suggesting widespread use and familiarity with GenAI tools.
Impact of GenAI on Cybersecurity and Privacy
AI has successfully replaced traditional rule-based approaches with more intelligent technology. However, the evolving digital landscape is elevating the sophistication of cyber threat actors. Traditionally, cyberspace faced high volumes of relatively unsophisticated intrusion attempts. The introduction of AI-aided attacks has ushered in a new era, transforming cyberattack vectors. AI/ML has enhanced the effectiveness of cyber attacks, making cyber offenders more powerful. Consequently, GenAI has attracted significant interest from the cybersecurity community for both defense and offense.
GenAI tools like ChatGPT can help cyber defenders safeguard systems from malicious intruders. These tools leverage information from LLMs trained on extensive cyber threat intelligence data, including vulnerabilities, attack patterns, and indications of attack. Cyber defenders can use this information to enhance their threat intelligence capabilities by extracting insights and identifying emerging threats. GenAI tools can also analyze large volumes of log files, system output, or network traffic data during cyber incidents, speeding up and automating the incident response process. Additionally, GenAI models can help create security-aware human behavior by training people for sophisticated attacks and aid in secure coding practices by generating secure code and producing test cases.
However, GenAI also poses significant risks if misused by cyber offenders. Attackers can use GenAI to perform cyber attacks by extracting information or circumventing ethical policies. They can leverage GenAI tools to create convincing social engineering attacks, phishing attacks, attack payloads, and malicious code snippets that can be compiled into executable malware files. Although OpenAI’s ethical policies restrict LLMs like ChatGPT from directly providing malicious information, attackers can bypass these restrictions using techniques such as jailbreaking and reverse psychology. According to the ISC2 AI Cyber 2024 report, 75% of respondents are moderately to extremely concerned that AI will be used for cyberattacks or other malicious activities.
GenAI for Cyber Offense
Cyber offenses are hostile actions against computer systems and networks intended to manipulate, deny, disrupt, degrade, or destroy existing systems maliciously. While offensive actions are generally malicious, cyber defenders can also use them to test their defense systems and identify vulnerabilities. Information on cyber defense is more readily available, while information on cyber offenses is limited due to legal and ethical constraints. However, easy access to LLM models like ChatGPT can help attackers circumvent these constraints.
Social Engineering Attacks
Social engineering manipulates individuals into performing actions or divulging confidential information. ChatGPT’s ability to understand context and generate human-like text can be exploited for social engineering attacks. For example, an attacker with basic personal information about a victim could use ChatGPT to generate a message that appears to come from a colleague or superior, requesting sensitive information or actions. According to a survey by LastPass in 2024, more than 95% of respondents believe dynamic content through LLMs makes detecting phishing attempts more challenging.
Phishing Attacks
Phishing attacks involve posing as trustworthy entities to extract sensitive information from victims. AI systems like ChatGPT can craft highly convincing and personalized phishing emails, effectively imitating legitimate communication from trusted entities. These AI-powered phishing emails exploit psychological principles like urgency and fear, prompting recipients to act impulsively, thereby increasing the success rate of phishing attacks. The same LastPass survey indicates that phishing will remain the top social engineering threat to businesses throughout 2024.
Automated Hacking
Hacking involves exploiting system vulnerabilities to gain unauthorized access or control. AI models like ChatGPT can automate hacking procedures, identifying system vulnerabilities and devising strategies to exploit them. For instance, AI-assisted tools like PentestGPT, built on ChatGPT, automate aspects of penetration testing, helping ethical hackers identify vulnerabilities. However, the same principles can be exploited by malicious actors to automate unethical hacking procedures.
Attack Payload Generation
Attack payloads execute unauthorized actions such as deleting files, harvesting data, or launching further attacks. ChatGPT can generate attack payloads by training on specific target system details. For example, an attacker could use ChatGPT to generate SQL injection payloads for a vulnerable database system. Although generating these payloads requires detailed information and technical knowledge, the potential for misuse is significant.
Generative AI, particularly models like ChatGPT, presents both opportunities and challenges in cybersecurity. While these tools can enhance cyber defense capabilities, their potential for misuse by cyber offenders cannot be ignored. As GenAI tools become more accessible, understanding their implications from a cybersecurity perspective is crucial. According to the HiddenLayer AI Threat Landscape Report 2024, 98% of companies view some of their AI models as vital for business success, underscoring the importance of securing these transformative technologies.

2025 NISSAN X-TRAIL FIRST DRIVE REVIEW: THE JACK OF ALL TRADES
Amalsha VS
An All-You-Need Package:
QUICK TAKE
The 2025 Nissan X-Trail is a competent midsize SUV that offers an impressively balanced blend of space, comfort, features, performance, and efficiency.
Shiny Bits
- Exceptionally feature-packed
- Excellent all-round performance
- Appreciably capable off-road
- Smooth connectivity features
Rough edges
- Cramped third row
- Limited boot space behind the third row
MODERN, AESTHETIC & CHARACTERFUL
The current-gen Nissan X-Trail takes a sharper exterior approach compared to the previous generation’s smoother, more curvaceous design language. Although not as boxy as the earlier generations, I personally think the latest X-Trail has a bit more character than its immediate predecessor. It blends in well while standing out just enough not to be an NPC-looking generic modern SUV. And the model we drove, garbed in Boulder Gray Pearl, perfectly adhered to this design philosophy.
FAST & FUN ENOUGH FOR ON-ROADING AND SOFT-ROADING

The 2025 Nissan X-Trail offers a striking combination of everything you would expect from a midsize SUV.
Looking at the X-Trail’s evolution since its inception, it has evidently transitioned into a softer version after each generation. But this time, we felt that it has travelled back to its “Tough Gear” roots, reviving a bit more of its original prowess in tackling minor sessions off the paved path. Hence, we found the new X-Trail performing admirably at whatever we threw at it, ranging from the hectic Sharjah-Dubai commute to speed bursts on some trails, although nothing like proper dune bashing in the desert.

The 2025 Nissan X-Trail is powered by a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder motor, mated to a CVT transmission, pushing out a respectable 181 horsepower and 244 NM of torque. These figures are competent enough, and the transmission is tuned well-enough to deliver satisfying kicks without ever getting stuck in the stagnancy of the “rubber band effect” often associated with CVT transmissions. The all-wheel-drivetrain does a respectable job in delivering confident and dynamic handling on and off the tarmac. However, if you’re seeking something that can deliver decently hardcore off-roading abilities, you should consider the bigger, bolder, Nissan X-Terra.
Highway-cruising at 160 kph is effortless as a breeze, with no stability issues or crosswind scares whatsoever.
There are five drive modes to choose from, namely Auto (the equivalent of Normal/Comfort for Nissan), along with ECO, Sport, Snow and Off-Road. Auto mode redeems its identity by delivering an evidently noticeable shift in the way the X-Trail behaves under different driving conditions and styles. Efficiency is impressive in ECO mode, and still respectable in Sport mode, which unlocks the full potential of the X-Trail. 0-100 kph took just above the 8-second mark in our testing, and highway-cruising at 160 was effortless as a breeze, with no stability issues or crosswind scares whatsoever.
WELL-BUILT WITH ALL THE COMFORT AND TECH YOU’LL EVER NEED

The interior of this midsize Nissan turned out to be more plush and comfy than we expected. Although there are both five-seater and seven-seater variants available, we would call it a 5+2-seater in real world conditions and recommend the third-row to be reserved for kids. The seats are well cushioned with plenty enough electrical adjustments provided, especially if you’re obsessed with finding that perfect driving posture like some of us. The second row too is decently spacious, with enough space for three adults without sacrificing headroom or legroom.
It is more than practical enough for families & luxurious enough to deliver a wow factor each time you step into it.
Another point to note is the presence of enough physical, tactile buttons. I personally consider this a blessing in today’s world where automakers tend to cram everything into a single, lifeless touchscreen screen or even worse, assign them to touch-sensitive buttons.

PLENTY OF TECH FEATURES
A pair of 12.3-inch screens are provided, one as the central infotainment touchscreen and the other as the instrument console. A head-up display which lets you glue your eyes onto the road and wireless charging are also features offered as standard in the top-end trims.
Among the abundantly provided tech features, we were the most impressed by the effortless wireless smartphone connectivity offered via both Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. Specifically this part which some might not consider as a pivotal aspect because we have faced issues with wireless connectivity, particularly with Android Auto in much more luxurious vehicles, some that even cost more than double the X-Trail.
Effortless wireless smartphone connectivity is offered via both Android Auto & Apple CarPlay.
Some other praiseworthy bits in the X-Trail include all the driver-assistance features you would expect in a modern car, including a rearview mirror that doubles up as a camera screen that doesn’t obstruct the view of the driver.
FINAL FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The 2025 Nissan X-Trail offers a striking combination of everything you would expect from a midsize SUV. It is more than practical enough for a family and luxurious enough to deliver a wow factor every time you step into it. From the driver’s seat it is playful and confidence-inspiring, enough to put a smile on your face whether it be on the road or on a mild trail. Overall, it is one of the most ideal machines for the region, in terms of size, segment, and performance, offering a versatile and all-inclusive personal mobility solution.

Amalsha VS
Automotive Integrator
Quick, comfortable, glamorous, and graceful. The Genesis Electrified GV70 is a well-rounded package that has more than impressed us.
QUICK TAKE
Shiny Bits
- Bentley-ish aesthetics
- Desirable luxury & comfort
- Peppier than its petrol sibling
Rough edges
- Inconsistent brake pedal feel
- Leaves us longing for a little more range
Genesis has gracefully evolved into a veritable luxury brand that now consistently manages to deliver awe-inspiring products. Over the last decade, the luxury arm of Hyundai has polished and enhanced every aspect of its auto-making prowess, that many of their cars are now easy recommendations. The Genesis Electrified GV70 is one of those admirable products, and us because we were at the right place at the right time, were able to drive one around for a couple of days, just enough to get a taste of what Genesis has cooked up on electricity.
Design and Exterior Styling of the 2025 Genesis Electrified GV70: A Head-Turner Indeed!

In a world of bland-looking electric capsules, the Electrified GV70 stands out for its flashy yet tasteful design language.
The Electrified GV70 looks pretty much identical to its petrol-powered sibling, and one without an eye for it might not be able to spot the difference at a glance. Which is a good thing because EVs don’t necessarily have to be shaped like a computer mouse, just for the sake of achieving superlative aerodynamics. Hence, in a vast modern world with a considerable number of bland-looking electric capsules, the Electrified GV70 stands out for its flashy yet tasteful design language.
2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 Performance: Swift, Sharp & Sure-Footed

The Electrified GV70 is not just fleet-footed on straight lines, but also appreciably stable during high-speed cornering.
Although visually, the Electrified GV70 didn’t emanate the vibe of a performance-oriented SUV, once I slotted it into Sports mode, it didn’t fail to impress me. This electric crossover is powered by two electric motors nestled into the front and rear axles, capable of producing a maximum combined output of 483 horsepower (in Boost mode) and 700 nm of torque. An all-wheel drivetrain transmits all that vigor to all four wheels, enabling the Electrified GV70 to reach 100 kmph speeds in less than four seconds.
During our testing, we found the EV consistently delivering this pace, even after multiple consecutive 0-100 runs. The Electrified GV70 is not just fleet-footed on straight lines, but also appreciably stable during high-speed cornering. Road manners is exceptional for an SUV weighing almost two and a half tonnes (2,285 kgs), except for the brake pedal feel, which was considerably inconsistent across drive modes and different regen settings. Keeping this minor hiccup aside, I would say the Electrified GV70 is one of the best sleeper EVs we have experienced in recent times.
2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 Range: Doesn’t Induce Range Anxiety But Still Leaves Us Wanting More
The Electrified GV70 draws energy from an 84-kWh battery pack, which on a full charge provides a range of around 400 km. Genesis claims that charging up this battery pack from 10 to 80% takes less than 20 minutes. While the charging speed is more than enough, I wish a range of 500+ km would have entirely eliminated range anxiety for me, considering the average long-distance drives we frequently take across the UAE, to and fro neighboring emirates.
2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 Interior: Comfy, High-Class & Tech-Laden

Air conditioning in EVs is considerably superior to traditional ICE vehicles
Every nook and corner of the cabin is made up of desirable elements and sheathed in high-quality, soft-touch materials. The seats are heated, ventilated, and shrouded in natural leather, while the front seats also offer electric adjustability. Another often overlooked comfort factor specific to EVs is the consistency of their air-conditioning. Unlike petrol-powered cars, there isn’t a need for the compressor to be running at a particular speed or the car to be driven at a specified pace; air conditioning in EVs is considerably better compared to traditional ICE vehicles. This was evident in the Electrified GV70, as it kept our heads cool during the three days of testing in the UAE’s harsh summer heat. Overall, this compact luxury electric SUV is one of the best in its class, when it comes to ride comfort, interior quality, and easily ticks all the boxes in the comfort sector.

Tech features are abundant inside the Electrified GV70. The instrument console is a digital unit with a 3D visual effect that displays all the vital information in a legible and appealing format. The central infotainment touchscreen is a massive 14.5-inch OLED unit, which can also be operated via a rotary dial located conveniently in the center console. Although some might consider this a last-generation feature, we found this helpful when we found ourselves too lazy to reach for the touchscreen located above the dashboard. Another exceptional feature is the optional Lexicon-branded 15-speaker audio system in our test unit, which delivered a crisp and professional-grade auditory experience.
Final First-Impressions: Understated Excellence

The GV70 Electrified hides the finesse of a high-performance SUV under the flamboyance of the luxury and comfort it offers.
We found the Genesis Electrified GV70 to be one of the most underrated offerings in the sea of EVs currently on sale in the UAE. It hides the finesse of a high-performance SUV under the flashiness and flamboyance of the luxury and comfort it offers. But we looked beneath it and found a gracefully comfy EV that can switch character to a quick and capable, driver-satisfying (although not ardently enthusiastic) EV. Hence, for us, the Electrified GV70 stands out as one of the finest electric SUVs on sale in the UAE
